Ways to order

You don't need a big app to get your local delivered. Here's how to order so that more of your money reaches the kitchen.

  1. 1st choice

    Eat in

Book a table or walk in. Nothing goes to an app, and a full dining room keeps the place alive.

  2. 2nd choice

    Collect it yourself

Phone ahead or use their own ordering page and choose collection. No courier, no app.

  3. 3rd choice

    Order direct for delivery

Call the restaurant or use its own website. Many locals deliver themselves; others book a courier for you.

Tip 1

Many independents now have their own branded ordering page or app. Look on the box, the menu, a flyer or the counter, or find them in our directory.

These pages are run by ordering companies for the restaurant. The restaurant pays a monthly or per-order fee, not a marketplace commission on your meal.

  • Storekit

Own-branded ordering store. 0% commission on all plans, with a flat per-order fee.

  • Slerp

Own-branded ordering site or app, £125 to £250 a month per site. No marketplace-style commission.

Tip 2

A big-app rider at the door doesn't mean you used the app.

Restaurants can take your order on their own website or phone line, then book a courier to bring it. The rider might wear a familiar jacket, but your order skipped the marketplace commission.

  • Uber Direct

Uber couriers deliver orders taken on the restaurant’s own website, app or phone line. Uber says pricing is per delivery only, with no commissions or monthly minimums.

  • Deliveroo Express

Customers order, pay and track on the restaurant’s own website or app, and Deliveroo riders deliver.

  • MealShift

These services are booked by the restaurant, not by you. Ask your local how they deliver.

Not sure? Just ask.

"Can I order direct from you?" Save the number. Next time, you both win.
